One of the strengths of Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic Games is the location of its event venues, according to a recent evaluation by the International Olympic Committee.

With several venues concentrated in the city and along the lakefront, the athlete’s Olympic Village and fans staying in hotels would be only a short distance from the event locations.

However, the proposed venue sites have been criticized by some in the community. For example, the temporary 19,500-seat tennis center, which would be located at the Waveland tennis courts along the lakefront, would be close to The Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary, possibly disturbing the wildlife.

Chicago Storytelling’s Camelia Rodriguez and Cheryl Waity built this map detailing the locations based on Chicago 2016’s bid book. Click on the map pins for details about each venue.
