I think there was some confusion. Misericordia serves those with Developmental Disabilities, which is different than mental illness (i.e. depression, bipolar etc.). Though some of the residents certainly have both, all of the residents have Developmental Disabilities.

Matt and Rashanah, I think you did a great job with this piece. Too little is known about what's really going on in Englewood, and even less about positive steps being taken. Thanks for choosing this subject and doing it so well, your classmate Sally Fitz Morrison.

Yeah, Michael, I agree.

Perception is often reality.

If no-one (neighbors/politicians) cares enough to clean the garbage than it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Streets and Sanitation need to write more tickets to businesses who litter, there needs to be more garbage cans on the corners etc.

John McCarron brought up an interesting point that I left out of the story about how Englewood doesn't have one Alderman.

Since the neighborhood is divided between 4 wards it doesn't have a sole advocate, which could serve to simplify matters, that should be simple, like getting garbage cleaned up.

It's a constant battle in the inner cities and unfortunately, I think there's far too few folks like those you featured in this piece. People have talked about a renaissance for this area for decades but little has changed.

I recently walked through the area and I was stunned by the amount of garbage on the sidewalk. It seems like a simple and very positive first step to clean the garbage off the streets. Yet, it rots there and piles up. Here's my piece on it.

I attended Sacred Heart Academy from 1923 thru 1928. I am now 90 years old, and would love to hear from any one still alive that attended at that time. My sisters, Evelyn and Agnes, collectively two years ahead of me, also attended. My brother Ladislas Horvath attended St. Procopius Boys School.

Thank you.

I was a ward of the state seince i was born running lost . even went back home but never seemed like i belonged anywhere. I associate this with being native american and lost in the system. Became a professional runnaway at age 11yrs of age. When i was 14 I became a mother. I would love to share my story with others who have been lost. I still feel a little lost but trying to make my way back to the only place i know as home . after being gone from Chicago for 19 yr. I wanna come back home. If anyone has any sugestions or want to share. or even start a forum . or maybe there is one already in Chicago that i dont know about.
